It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of one of our most valuable members of the Alberta Branch of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada — Dr. Alexandria (Sandy) Sawchuk.
Excerpt from the obituary:
As a community member, she was a tireless volunteer. She served on the Consistory Board of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada and held a variety of executive positions on the Parish Council of St. Anthony’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She was a longtime member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada (St. Anna’s Branch), and an active board member of the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (Alberta Branch). At St. Anthony’s, she also taught Sunday School, co-ordinated English language classes for newly arrived Ukrainian immigrants, and volunteered at parish work bees and charity events. As a mother, she shared her enthusiasm and love of learning with her daughters, encouraging them to be curious, independent, and self-reliant, and to pursue their own dreams. As a wife, she was Russell’s greatest supporter, fully committed to their partnership and his many academic and photographic endeavours.
